Aboriginal accused pleaded guilty to various property offences — Accused would essentially walk into open businesses and steal something after walking through — Trial judge sentenced accused to 14-month conditional sentence — Accused committed offences while on probation or bail as he had detailed record including previous conditional sentences — Trial judge gave serious thought to restorative justice principles opining accused may have been right case for sentencing circle but concluded system was not properly set up yet to benefit accused — Accused did not seem to understand harm of his actions nor did he seem to want connect to his Aboriginal community.
