Proof beyond a reasonable doubt requires a high degree of proof, but it does not demand certainty. Others may have been involved, as he protests. The police may have not examined all the documents in the house, and the police may have only focused him while ignoring others, but that is an argument used by people when they get caught speeding: "Everyone else who was speeding got away, and I was the only one who got the ticket." It does not work in traffic court, and it does not work in criminal court
