The Emerging Legal Technology Forum | Calgary


On Tuesday, October 26th, the Emerging Legal Technology Forum was held in Calgary. A morning session was held for practitioners and change leaders to discuss innovations in legal technology and how it is changing the profession.

The legal landscape is shifting rapidly. There are now over 1,700 legal technology start-ups as reported in Anglelist. Over the past 5 years there has been a 484% growth in new legal services technology patents. Capabilities are being developed that will allow you to service clients faster and with increased confidence.

The panel at the session included; Zena Applebaum, Director – Professional Firm Segments, Thomson Reuters; Ian Holloway, Dean Faculty of Law, University of Calgary; Kate Simpson, National Director of Knowledge Management Strategy and Initiative at Bennett Jones; Peter Garrett, President and CEO, Innovate Calgary; and Andrian Camara, CEO of Paper. AI, ‘T’ shaped professionals, investment in innovation and technologies, and design thinking, were big topics during the session.
